made with (electric) love.

Last night was dedicated to making headbands. Yes, headbands.

You may or may not know that I have a little online Etsy business called electric love (here comes the shamless plug)…

What is Etsy?
Our mission is to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers. Our vision is to build a new economy and present a better choice: Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.

Why do I make headbands?
Well, it all started earlier this year when some girlfriends and I were looking for feathered headbands to wear to the Coachella Music Festival (mentioned here). I was recently post-wedding, felt like I had tons of spare time, was craving a craft project (yes, I enjoy creative things) and said, “I can make those!”

So, I bought a bunch of random supplies, hauled them up to the Pinetop Cabin for Valentine’s Day weekend and starting braiding, weaving and playing around with some designs – using Sydney as my muse. Originally I was just making them for me and my friends but enjoyed it so much Danny convinced me to try and sell them…. and electric love was born.

It’s been a fun creative outlet for me. More than anything, I’m proud that I followed through with an idea. I have lots of ideas and they tend to go nowhere. This one I went for, did a “photoshoot” (thanks, Heidi) and have actually sold quite a few headbands – not tons (thank goodness because my fingers would start to bleed) but enough for some extra shopping money. Mostly, it gives me the opporutnity to be creative and it’s pretty neat to think of girls across the country wearing my headbands. Weird.

That’s the long and the short of electric love.

This summer electric love was featured as “A summer must have from a Fave AZ Etsy Seller” in a local lifestyle magazine Desert Living’s online newsletter ScoopFactory (and yes, I’m in PR but I swear I had nothing to do with this)!
