beachside sacrifice.

bali religious ceremony

that time we showed up at Padang Padang Beach extra early for a surf session
and stumbled upon a traditional religious/cultural ceremony.
there were chants, there was singing and eh, sacrificing.

we quietly made our way around the ceremony and found a quiet spot by the water.
respectfully watching from a distance, things were interesting until they got intense.

i looked to my left and saw three men:
one with surfboard, one with a live duck and one with a knife.
i looked away, but when ting told me it was safe, i looked back.

they piled up the surf board with offerings, incense &
the confused duck strapped to the nose of the board.
he quacked all the way out to sea.

adios, duck.
