a new 365 for the taking.

new year 2015 champagne

i’m having a little bit of déjà vu right now. i’m sitting in my in-law’s cabin, in the exact same fireside recliner that i curled up in during our first week back in arizona. i’m in the exact same spot where i wept and wrote this blog post about closing our asia travel chapter.

it feels just right to be back here again as we reflect and turn the page on a new chapter: 2015.

i get giddy thinking about a new year. a fresh start. four more seasons for the taking. new milestones to accomplish. i’m a firm believer that “a goal without a plan is just a wish” and that without spending time to plan, days turn to weeks to years and it’s easy for time to get away from you.

that’s why as long as we’ve been the tings, we’ve spent new year’s day sipping champagne and writing our goals in four categories: Personal / Professional / Relationships / Wish List.

it’s funny how differently danny and i approach this task. i doodle, he methodically numbers. i start with wish list (more passport stamps!) and relationships (friends, family, marriage, etc.) while he goes straight into professional growth and personal finance goals. balance, i guess.

this year, we both want to be better about documenting and celebrating our successes. it’s human nature to focus on what we didn’t accomplish and forget all that we did do. that’s one of the reasons i’ve loved the blog over the years. it’s a fun reminder of life’s good stuff.

and that’s one of the reasons that getting back to the blog was on my list. i’m not sure if it will take the same shape as the past, but i want to keep it up in some capacity. so, here we go.

“this year, dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself-
go forward and make your dreams come true.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
